2020 24 hours to go
I wish I could take credit for that title, but it's been all over the place...
The year is nearly over, but the awfulness it brought will be with us for quite some time to come. There are so many aspects of 2020 that I would like to say goodbye to, but there are still many months (at least) of COVID on the horizon, three weeks for 45 to make trouble for the country and the world, and little if anything has been accomplished on the racial justice front.
I have some hope that things will slowly begin to improve after January 20. New, sane leadership can only help the situation, and hopefully the vaccine rollout will speed up. But let's face it, 2021 is likely to be a pretty terrible year too, at least the first few months of it. Maybe by the summer we'll be able to travel again and return to at least some semblance of normalcy.
We've been enjoying winter break - the kids and my wife are off from school/work, so I took a few days off as well and we've been doing a combination of relaxing and cleaning. I've liberated nearly half of my office, which is an enormous accomplishment for me (the remaining half is a horrible horrible mess though, so I will not claim victory or anything so absurd.) We'll celebrate NYE with some fancy food and hopefully online party games with some friends. Maybe tomorrow I'll build some legos.
Personally, I am still hoping that my knee will start to get better. I have an appointment with a new physical therapist next week, so maybe 2021 will be the year that I finally make some progress towards healing.
For the few of you reading this, thank you for sticking with me and for indulging my ramblings. I plan to continue. In the meantime I wish you and yours only the very best for the new year. I hope 2021 will be a year for healing and celebration and only good things for all of us, and for the world. When all of this is over, we will gather, we will celebrate, and we will find ways to honor all of those we have lost.
